May 2002 Issue #3

Watergate Yachting Center, 1500 Marina Bay Drive, Pier 23, Kemah, TX. 77565

Greeting again! Where did spring go? We suddenly went from fairly cold norther's to over 90 degrees. I guess summer will be early this year! A slow winter has now produced a very active and busy summer season. Clean Brokerage boats have been selling very quickly and new boat sales have also picked up, especially in the newer unseen models that are just coming out.

I took our Albin 28 Tournament Express down to Freeport last month as it was going to go to our Port A office for a while and I was astounded that I made it from the Kemah Bridge to Bridge Harbor in 3 hours. I even slowed down through those misplaced marks in Chocolate Bayou. Given that it takes me 12 hours to get my Catalina 30 ORINOCO down there, three hours was a real treat. If you haven't checked out the Albin line, have a look at www.albinmarine.com.This nice, quick 3 hour excursion got me to thinking, maybe I need to take a little longer weekend cruise on this boat!

We've just received a NEW beautiful Dark Blue hull  Limited Edition Beneteau 411. This is one good-looking boat and she has a lot of custom Beneteau Features. This boat is only available for a limited time and is a very good buy.

Our new Albin 36 Express Trawler should be here also by the end of May. Now this would be a great boat to run to Freeport or Port A on and spend the weekend. There's something to be said for running 20-24kts!

We've also sold the 2nd Beneteau First 36.7, but this one is going to hang around the dock till the end of June and be Available for sea trials for interested parties. Expect to see her in the upcoming "Shoe" regatta and watch out as this boat is made to take Silver!

We've also sold our first Catalina 350. She'll probably arrive here late in Sept. Hopefully for the In the Water Boat Show, which is early this year Sept 16-29th. The Catalina 350 has been a huge hit. Over 50 boats have been sold. I can see us easily now getting into 2003 delivery times. If you're interested in a 350, talk to me now!

The first hull of the Beneteau 42 Center Cockpit should also be coming in about in the same time frame as the Catalina 350.

I also have now seen color preliminary sketches of the new Island Packet 485. This boat is also debuting this fall and hull number one should be in the Newport and Annapolis boat show. I have to say that I am very impressed with what Bob Johnson has done to this design. Many other people must be too as I believe there are over 20 deposits on the boat already. All the specs and prelim info can be found at www.ipy.com and then hit the 485 link. You'll be impressed.

Interesting Web Sites

I'm continually astounded by what information that you can find on the Internet. Here are a few sites that I have found that you might enjoy.
Are you new to Sailing and wonder if you'll like it? Want to receive a free video on Sailing, go to www.discoversailing.com.

Have you ever been curious about the Harvest Moon Regatta race from Galveston to Port A? Want to read more about it or would you like to enter the race? Go to www.harvestmoonregatta.com.

Want to see what the new Redfish Island is going to look like go to Redfish Island Updates. This is going to be one real fine and close anchorage when it's completed. It's one use of our tax dollars that I think is fantastic.

One of my old clients, Charles Duhon, is also a really good marine artist. He can paint a picture of your boat from a photo and make it look like it's sitting in a harbor in Tahiti. His prices are very reasonable and you can contact and view his work at www.ArtistryMarineArt.com. They would make outstanding presents for someone who is hard to shop for. I wish I had that kind of talent.

New Brokerage Listings

I have a lot of new listings to talk about. Hit the boat description to go to the photos. Call or email me for full listing either emailed or faxed as I don’t keep full specs on the Yachtworld site.

'01 Beneteau First 47.7 Everyone knows this boat. I sold her new and She’s regarded to be one of the prettiest boats in the Harbor. She’s rigged to race with high tech sails, but she’d also be a comfortable cruiser as she’s got Gen and A/C and full electronics.  Asking is $325K and she’s a brand new listing.

'93 Beneteau First 35s5 I’ve sold this really clean popular boat several times. She has updated sails, traveler, carbon pole and a very meticulous owner. Neither of which raced her. Asking is $ 87500.

'81 Cape Dory 33—Another great boat I sold to the current owner about 9 years ago. She has a new Yanmar Diesel just installed last year. Full Keel Cape Dory’s are getting harder and harder to find. Don’t Miss This One.

'85 Cheoy Lee 36-Another boat that I sold over 10 years ago.  She’s the little sister to the '90 Cheoy Lee Pedrick 41 that I mentioned in the last issue and has the updated look of an aluminum toe rail, Lewmar Hatches and winches. Really a nice boat for $69,900 and has a new generator and has had only 2 owners. She’s located in Corpus but easy to see.

'90 Hunter 35.5----Too late SOLD in 3 Days

2002 Catalina 310 Trade in! Owner moved up to the new Catalina 350. Photos and details coming but she’s on the dock and at $89K asking is $10K below replacement.

'90 Island Packet 40   We have two and Both are the same year:  Faith is  $249K and located here on the dock. The other is Serenity and she is asking  $245K. Both are nice clean examples of this very popular model from Island Packet.

'84 Catalina 27—Ok I’m sure you’re getting tired of hearing me say this, but I’ve sold this particular boat 4 times!  She’s the nicest example of a wheel steering, diesel inboard Cat 27 that you will find.  Her current owner has moved up and was by far the most particular of the 4 owners and has also spent the most money in upgrading her.  Including new upholstery, professional exterior varnish, new head and lots of instruments and canvas upgrades. She’s a tall rig with a Harken furler. For less money than used car, you can try sailing this summer—Asking $19,900 (MAKE OFFER)

2000 Catalina 470—I sold this well equipped boat new and her owner is only selling to move up to something else. She is normally kept in Port A, but is on our dock for 1-2 more weeks. Equipped with every option you can imagine. Some lucky buyer will save over $50K over a new boat.

2001 Beneteau 411—Change of plans forces this NEW boat on the brokerage market. She’s got every option too: Gen-set, A/C Dingy, Outboard. Etc. He’s looking for an offer.

Just listed: '84 C&C 37 Ex: Dynamite. Only 2 owners. Her first ordered her with every option from the factory he could get. Full Details pending, but she’s loaded and well cared for. Asking $87,500.

Just listed: '99 Pacific Seacraft Crealock 37. This boat has less than 150 hours. She is the Voyagemaker plan with many Factory options.  We in fact now have 3 premium examples of this model. The other two are ’98 models. All 3 have unique qualities and options. One has an optional Bulkhead table arrangement and the other two are centerline tables. All three are 249K which would be nearly $50K under replacement.

Recent reductions in price:

'85 Passport 47 Center Cockpit A real rarity in this area. Quality like this is even hard to find anywhere. Very few were built as Center Cockpits. She’s been lowered to  $259K Cheoy Lee 48 Aft Cockpit—over $100K spent in a full restoration. Very clean boat and a great Bob Perry Design. Lower to $149K. Way below what her owner has invested. On her way here from Rockport.

'83 Vagabond 42— A Terrific Traditional Center cockpit with a modern underbody and no teak decks. I have sold this boat twice before. I have 2 couples that are out cruising on sister ships. $149K is a bargain for this quality especially with the Improvements that have been done like new generator, sails and electronics '95 Larson Cabrio 28—lowered to $39995. Very clean, sling kept in a covered shed. Really large cabin cruiser with 2 sleeping areas and she has A/C and new generator '98 Pacific Seacraft Dana 24  Drastic reduction to $77,500. I sold her new. Yes the new base price of a new Dana 24 is 70K, but that’s just the boat, no sails, no freight, no equipment-Very Very Base. So you can easily see how you can get over the now lowered asking price for this boat. With the options she has, I can show you how it would be over $100K to duplicate this boat today and many of the options on this boat Pacific Seacraft do not even offer any more.

There are several other boats that just got listed that I couldn’t get in here in time. Like a Wauiquez 35 and a late model Pearson 27 to start and I should also be getting a late 80’s Island Packet 27.  So make sure and check the listings page to see those boats.

I’m here to help you in any way I can with a new or used boat or just for advice regarding gear and equipment. I have over 17 years of selling yachts. I’ve equipped countless yachts for offshore passage making and I’m sure my experience can help you. I literally can help you with any boat in the world.  Thanks for reading my newsletter!!!
