Beneteau 31 Premiers at Strictly Sail Chicago Marion, SC, January 30, 2008 The newest member of the Beneteau line proves that elegance and style are not restricted to its bigger siblings. As the entry-level boat, the Beneteau 31 embodies the same philosophy as the other members of the Beneteau line: to create a family cruiser par excellence - beautiful to look at, comfortable to live aboard and seaworthy.
“The second in this latest range of premiering models also combines elegance with ingenuity for comfortable cruising with friends and family or easy single handing,” Beneteau USA President Wayne Burdick said. “She combines functionality with great visual appeal and real pizzazz in a size of boat where design panache often comes in a poor second to function.”
The 31 cruising yacht follows the striking Groupe Finot lines and the high style of Nauta Design of the recently unveiled Beneteau 37 to a new scale. With its sharp profile and sleek coachroof, the 31 also incorporates innovative features like the patented companionway hatch and extremely practical cockpit lift-opening locker that is unique to her size.
The designers of the 31 focused on ensuring that comfort was not sacrificed for function and style.
The cockpit allows freedom of movement around the wheel and has a spacious transom skirt and its unique lifting locker.
Beneteau’s patented companionway system, with its foldable, sliding hatch, leads to an impressive cabin that will become the high bar in design excellence for boat builders.
The new design gives priority to the shared areas of the boat. To create a spacious, ergonomically-designed cockpit, generous salon and the largest galley in its category. A great deal of detail has gone into the design of the interior to create maximum space with abundant natural light.
“The challenge was to create the maximum living space, so on this boat you’ll see a galley that is probably the best in its class, with paired stainless steel sinks area arranged lengthwise to provide the greatest work surface.” Burdick said. “The very comfortable salon emphasizes space and light, making use of two hull side ports as well as coachroof ports to create a bright, airy feel.”
“The Beneteau 31 will be built in Marion, SC,” Burdick said. “She will be is offered in a two-cabin layout with a large head/shower compartment and grand salon.”
Geoff McCord, Beneteau regional sales manager, said the Beneteau 31 impressed him during its unveiling at the Paris International Boat Show in December.
This was a pleasant surprise; the boat has a roomy feel below and in the cockpit,” he said. “ The outside styling--carried down from the 37--really looks stunning. Like the new 37, the new 31 will look great in the water and perform under sail.”

C375 - The New Catalina Yacht! |
| Smart Design Meets Style and Sailability in New Catalina 375 LARGO, FL (January 10, 2008) – Catalina Yachts has just launched the Catalina 375, a fresh new design, characteristic of the successful Catalina 36, and incorporating the best features found on all of Catalina’s latest models. As successor to the legendary Catalina 36, introduced twenty-five years ago, the 375 had big shoes to fill. Thoughtful ideas, suggestions and critique from the active Catalina 36 Owners’ Association and Catalina dealers guided the development process. “Virtually every system in this yacht has been reviewed and optimized for improved performance, efficiency and owner maintenance,” explained Gerry Douglas, vice president and chief engineer for Catalina. The new 375 has a sculpted, contemporary and functional low profile deck and a stable performance hull form. High quality hardware and offshore-capable rigging complements a powerful sail plan with in-mast furling main and vertical battens. Twin backstays balance the powerful rig, creating an unobstructed “California size” cockpit. A single side control traveler and inboard sheeting for overlapping genoas makes sail handling easier. Wide weather decks allow easy access forward and aft, and there is enough room in the anchor locker for two rodes and gear. Deep lockers aft leave plenty of space for optional a/c and generator. The transom extends seamlessly to the waterline for increased structural integrity. Catalina’s classic stern seats are integrated into the stern pulpit, along with an easy-access outboard motor bracket. A standard 6’10” fin keel is lead (not cast iron), and an optional 4’8” shoal draft wing keel allows gunkholing just about anywhere. Enter the 375’s spacious open interior through hinged bi-fold companionway doors. There’s solid teak trim in the classically symmetrical main cabin with traditional port and starboard cabinets. The Lonseal non-skid sole keeps maintenance underfoot to a minimum. There are plenty of drawers with storage under the seats, a large hanging locker, plus shelved lockers throughout. A game table converts to a settee or berth, and the functional, well-designed galley …more -2- has a self-contained stainless refrigerator, large dry locker, insulated compartment for optional refrigeration and solid surface counters. An extra large head adjacent to the owner’s cabin has a big circular shower and a gravity drain waste system. Inner spring mattresses are fitted in both cabins, fore and aft. Owners will find generous tankage for water, fuel and waste, and the 40-hp. Yanmar diesel sips fuel at a mere .6 gal./hr. @ 2000 RPM. The Catalina 375 comes at an attractive price point of approximately $178,000, FOB Largo, Florida, and will be on display at select winter ’08 boat shows, starting with Boston in January. “Catalinas do well in a very competitive market because they are the result of listening carefully to our owners and dealers,” said Frank Butler, founder and president of Catalina Yachts. “When we introduce a new boat, we don't try to reinvent the wheel each time. We incorporate proven features with new ideas and a lot of boat owners' suggestions. This gives the line continuity, helps us avoid overly trendy styling, and insures good resale value,” he said. For almost 40 years, Catalina’s unwavering dedication to building well-designed, durable, family oriented boats has resulted in long production runs where each model is improved and refined. A commitment to owner satisfaction has enhanced customer confidence and loyalty insures Catalina’s position as the leading, exclusively sailboat builder in the United States with manufacturing facilities on both east and west coasts and an extensive national and international dealer network. |

Beneteau 40 Wins Boat of the Year "Best Midsize Cruiser"
MARION, SC, December 17, 2007: The Beneteau 40 was awarded Boat of the Year by Cruising World Magazine for Best Midsize Cruiser. Cruising World magazine announced the best in boatbuilding for 2008 with its 15th annual Boat of the Year Awards. The results will be featured in Cruising World’s January 2008 issue.
In October, the judges nominated 24 boats in six categories: small cruisers, midsize cruisers, multihulls, midsize luxury cruisers, full-size cruisers and a unlimited cruisers category called, "Nothing quite like it." The judges included Steve Callahan, boat designer, Stacey Collins, a lifelong cruiser and veteran judge in the Boat of the Year Awards; Tom Linskey, former racer, sail maker and magazine editor; and Ralph Naranjo, former boatyard manager, technical editor and author. The judges toured the boats at the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, and sailed them on Chesapeake Bay over four days.
In the category of midsize cruisers, the competition included the Dufour 425, Grand Soleil 40, Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42i, Sabre Spirit and the Beneteau 40.
“Comfortable and stylish belowdecks and well organized topside, the Beneteau 40 showed light-air performance on the waters off Annapolis last fall that hinted at good handling in a stiffer breeze, and convinced the BOTY judges that this boat was a standout among Midsize Cruisers,” according to Cruising World.
“All in all, a good coastal cruising boat at a very reasonable price,” Naranjo said.
